Acupuncture Treatments

Acupuncture and herbs are an essential part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a system of health care that has been practiced for over 3,000 years.

  • Our natural vital energy, qi (pronounced chee), is inherent within all living things to promote the body's ability to heal itself.  Qi flows through our bodies along specific pathways, called meridians, similar to the way blood flows through the blood vessels.

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treats the whole individual.  An acupuncturist examines the root cause of pain and disease, therefore balancing and strengthening the body as a whole, in order to treat the visible signs and symptoms of pain and disease.

  • The combination of acupuncture, herbs, nutrition, life-style counseling, bodywork and exercise are used in the healing process to create balance in all areas of a person's health and well-being.

What can acupuncture & herbs treat?

Neurological: Headaches, migraines, post-stroke, post-operative pain

Musculoskeletal: Neck, shoulder and back pain, sciatica, arthritis, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel

Digestive: Indigestion, irritable bowel, Candida, nausea

Respiratory: Allergies, sinusitis, asthma, common cold

Emotional: Anxiety, depression, insomnia, stress

Gynecological: Infertility, PMS, cramps, endometriosis, menopause

My first goal is to always get my patient out of pain and deal with any problematic health issues that are keeping them from living a happy and healthy life.  Beyond pain, this could also include helping with sleep issues, digestive or respiratory problems, gynecological issues, post-surgery recovery or helping to reduce pain and inflammation to avoid invasive surgery.

Second, once your body is out of pain and back in balance the goal is maintenance care.  When we make a commitment to our health and well-being then we have better sleep, better energy, less to no injuries or colds.   Monthly or bi-monthly maintenance treatments are always recommended.  It is always much easier and cost effective to prevent disease than to treat a chronic health issue.

Cupping is a suction technique designed to pull toxin build-up from the body’s deeper tissue to the surface of the skin where it's easier for the body to eliminate toxins through the superficial capillary system.  Cupping also helps to release muscle spasms and draws oxygen and nutrient filled blood into the muscles and tissues to help speed up the healing process.  Cupping is therapeutic and also diagnostic.  Cupping will help pin point where the pain is stemming from.  The color under the cups identifies the source of the pain and the darker the color means more toxic build up in that area of tissues.  Cupping also shows us the severity of the problem.  When cupping an area of pain and discomfort, if no color comes up to the surface that tells us that the pain is related to a bone or nerve issue as opposed to toxin build up in the muscles and tissues.

The light the color the less severe the blockage.  Light pink or red color will fade within 2-3 days.  Darker purple color on the surface means there is more severe stagnation and will take up to 7-10 days for the cupping marks to fade.

Cupping brings great relief to chronic pain, also helps in alleviating chest congestion and cough.  We can add cupping into your acupuncture treatment or you can choose to come in for a 30 minute cupping only session.

"I went to Nicole for chronic fatigue, or what I would call turning into a zombie after 12pm. Instead of immediately treating my symptoms with acupuncture, Nicole met with me and discussed every aspect of my health. She recommend that I make changes to my diet as well as acupuncture treatments. She gave me specific food choices and meal ideas. Each time I meet with her, she is very genuine, helpful, and professional. After a few months of treatment, I can happily say that I no longer turn into a zombie after lunch. The community acupuncture room is also very comfortable and the procedure itself is virtually painless. The beautiful spa music puts me to sleep, and I feel refreshed and relaxed when I wake up. I highly recommend giving Nicole a visit!"
